Verhaal

Koekjes achter de cornflakes

1. Het is avond in de kleine woonkamer met open keuken, en Daan wil een knus filmmoment maken.

   It's evening in the small living room with an open kitchen, and Daan wants to have a cozy movie night.

2. Zijn moeder Sanne en vader Tom zetten de tassen met boodschappen op de tafel.

   His mother Sanne and father Tom put the grocery bags on the table.

3. Buiten regent het, dus we blijven thuis, want het is warm en droog hier.

   It's raining outside, so we stay home because it is warm and dry here.

4. "Ik pak de natuurfilm voor de dvd-speler," zegt Papa met een glimlach.

   "I'll get the nature film for the DVD player," says Dad with a smile.

5. Daan wil de koekjes vinden en zachte muziek klaarzetten op de mp3-speler.

   Daan wants to find the cookies and set soft music on the MP3 player.

6. Mama zegt dat de winkel op de hoek al dicht was, dus ze gebruiken wat ze in huis hebben.

   Mom says the shop on the corner was already closed, so they use what they have at home.

7. Daan legt de pakken pasta en blikken netjes op de hoge plank in de keuken.

   Daan puts the packs of pasta and the cans neatly on the high shelf in the kitchen.

8. Hij zoekt de koekjestrommel in de brede lade, maar hij ziet alleen vorken en lepels.

   He looks for the cookie jar in the wide drawer, but he only sees forks and spoons.

9. Mama spoelt twee rode appels af in de gootsteen en lacht.

   Mom rinses two red apples in the sink and laughs.

10. "Waar zijn de koekjes dan?" vraagt Daan, en hij fronst een beetje.

    "Where are the cookies then?" Daan asks, and he frowns a little.

11. Papa kijkt om zich heen, maar hij kan ze niet vinden.

    Dad looks around, but he can't find them.

12. De winkel is dicht, dus nieuwe koekjes kopen kunnen we niet, maar we hebben wel appels en warme melk.

    The shop is closed, so we can't buy new cookies, but we have apples and warm milk.

13. Dan herinnert Daan zich dat hij vanochtend een klein trommeltje met koekjes achter de cornflakes zette, om ze te bewaren.

    Then Daan remembers that this morning he put a small tin of cookies behind the cornflakes to keep them.

14. Hij kijkt nog eens op de plank, schuift de doos opzij, en ja, daar ligt het trommeltje met drie koekjes.

    He looks again on the shelf, pushes the box aside, and yes, there is the little tin with three cookies.

15. Iedereen juicht zacht, en Daan legt één koekje op elk bordje, heel trots.

    Everyone cheers softly, and Daan puts one cookie on each plate, very proud.

16. Papa start de dvd-speler, de natuurfilm draait, en de kamer wordt stil en groen van het bos op het scherm.

    Dad starts the DVD player, the nature film plays, and the room becomes quiet and green from the forest on the screen.

17. Na de film zet Daan zachte sterrenmuziek op de mp3-speler, zodat hij rustig kan gapen en slaperig worden.

    After the movie Daan plays soft star music on the mp3 player so he can yawn and get sleepy.

18. Hij kruipt tegen Mama aan met warme melk en een appelstukje, en hij fluistert dat thuis de fijnste winkel is, omdat liefde alles al heeft.

    He cuddles up to Mama with warm milk and a slice of apple, and whispers that home is the nicest shop because love already has everything.
