Story

Dos sabores en la cocina de Lucía

1. Es por la tarde en la cocina de Lucía, y ella quiere cocinar una cena para su familia.

   It's late afternoon in Lucía's kitchen, and she wants to cook dinner for her family.

2. Ana, su mamá, sonríe y dice que la ayudará, porque es divertido.

   Ana, her mom, smiles and says she will help her, because it's fun.

3. Ellas miran la mesa y planean una sopa y verduras sencillas.

   They look at the table and plan a simple soup and vegetables.

4. Sacan de la despensa el ajo, la sal y la pimienta.

   They take the garlic, salt, and pepper out of the pantry.

5. También ponen una botella de aceite y dos frascos: uno de salsa barbacoa y otro de curry.

   They also put a bottle of oil and two jars: one of barbecue sauce and one of curry.

6. Lucía abre la ventana un poco y respira hondo, lista para empezar.

   Lucía opens the window a little and takes a deep breath, ready to start.

7. Lucía abre el gas y enciende el fuego con cuidado.

   Lucía turns on the gas and lights the stove carefully.

8. Pone un huevo en una olla, y al rato el huevo queda hervido.

   He puts an egg in a pot, and after a while the egg is boiled.

9. Ana le explica que el fuego debe ser bajo, porque así todo se cocina despacio.

   Ana explains that the fire should be low, because that way everything cooks slowly.

10. Luego preparan verduras para asar en el horno de la cocina.

    Then they prepare vegetables to roast in the kitchen oven.

11. Lucía duda entre poner curry y usar salsa barbacoa, y no sabe qué hacer.

    Lucía can't decide whether to use curry or barbecue sauce, and doesn't know what to do.

12. Ana dice con calma que pueden probar dos sabores y compartir.

    Ana says calmly that they can try two flavors and share.

13. De pronto, la llama sube y el arroz se pega un poco, pero Ana baja el fuego a tiempo.

    Suddenly, the flame rises and the rice sticks a little, but Ana turns down the heat in time.

14. Lucía tose por la pimienta en el aire, y Ana le da agua y ríen.

    Lucía coughs because of the pepper in the air, and Ana gives her water and they laugh.

15. Ella aprende que tiene que mover la olla despacio y mirar el reloj.

    She learns that she has to move the pot slowly and watch the clock.

16. Diego, el papá, entra en la cocina y pregunta qué hacen, y Lucía dice: Es nuestra cena, y yo la cocino.

    Diego, the dad, comes into the kitchen and asks what they're doing, and Lucía says, "It's our dinner, and I'm cooking it."

17. Ponen una pizca de sal y un toque de pimienta, y prueban los dos sabores, suave y dulce.

    They add a pinch of salt and a touch of pepper, and they taste both flavors, mild and sweet.

18. Ahora vamos a cenar juntos, y Lucía apaga la cocina y se siente feliz.

    Now we're going to have dinner together, and Lucía turns off the stove and feels happy.
