The rain taps softly against the window of Sanne's room.
I would like to sleep, thinks Sanne, but her tummy hurts.
Haar stomach rommelt en voelt warm.
Her stomach rumbles and feels warm.
Mama Eva comes in and asks softly, "What's wrong, dear?"
"I'm a bit thirsty, and I'm also a bit bored in bed," whispers Sanne.
Mama knikt, want ze begrijpt het.
Mom nods because she understands it.
"This afternoon I tripped in a puddle," she says, "and my coat got wet."
"I got a bit angry, and a drop of blood came on my knee."
It hurt, and now everything feels a bit foggy in her head.
"You can lie still," says Mom, "I'll get water."
Sanne drinks slowly and smiles because the cool sip helps.
"It seemed so terrible this afternoon, but now it's getting better," she says.
Mom puts a warm hot-water bottle on her belly and says, "Breathe in and out; you can do it."
In bed Sanne tries to count quietly, but falling asleep is still difficult.
Still, she slowly feels lighter, and her eyes grow heavy.
Dad Jan peeks his head around the door and waves very softly.
Sanne yawns, crawls deeper under the blanket, and falls asleep because Mama hums a song.
Tomorrow she can play again, and tonight everything is quiet and safe.
