Emir'in Ad Kartı

1. Gece, Emir yatağında küçük bir defter açtı.

   At night, Emir opened a small notebook on his bed.

2. "Ben Emirim," dedi ve adını yumuşakça heceledi.

   He said, 'I'm Emir,' and softly spelled his name out.

3. Alfabe ona bir oyun gibi geldi; E, M, İ, R diye fısıldadı.

   The alphabet felt like a game to him; he whispered E, M, I, R.

4. Defterde küçük yazılmış üç ad gördü: "tom", "dan", ve "sam".

   Defne saw three small names written in the notebook: 'tom', 'dan', and 'sam'.

5. "Bunlar yabancı adlar mı?" diye sordu Emir.

   "Are these foreign names?" Emir asked.

6. Ayşe içeri geldi ve yanına oturdu; "Hepsi güzel adlar," dedi.

   Ayşe came in and sat down beside her. 'They're all nice names,' she said.

7. Emir, oyuncak kutusu için bir kart yazmak istedi.

   Emir wanted to write a card for the toy box.

   But the lowercase letters surprised her and she thought, 'Should my name be like this too?'

   Ayşe smiled and held out the pen. 'Your name will be whatever you want,' she said.

    "E and İ are vowels, M and R are consonants," Ayşe explained.

    Emir wrote and read carefully; the letters were like friends now.

13. Emir kartı yatağının başına astı ve "Uykuya hazırım," dedi.

    Emir hung the card at the head of his bed and said, "I am ready to sleep."

14. Ayşe ışığı kıstı, odaya yumuşak bir sessizlik geldi.

    Ayşe dimmed the light, and a soft silence filled the room.

15. "Her ad bir hikâye gibi," dedi Ayşe, "senin adın da özel ve sakin."

    "Every name is like a story," said Ayşe, "your name is special and peaceful."

16. Emir defteri kapattı ve kâğıttaki adlara fısıldadı: "İyi geceler, tom, dan, sam."

    Emir closed the notebook and whispered to the names on the paper: "Good night, tom, dan, sam."

    The room was warm and safe; Emir closed his eyes and smiled.
