Buenas noches, reptiles y amigos

1. Es de noche en el cuarto de Carmen.

   It's night in Carmen's room.

2. La luz es suave y cálida.

   The light is soft and warm.

3. Carmen sonríe; quiere aprender sobre los reptiles.

   Carmen smiles; she wants to learn about reptiles.

4. —Yo quiero dibujar y dormir tranquila —dice.

   —I want to draw and sleep peacefully," she says.

5. Ana, su mamá, se sienta con ella y abre un libro grande en la cama.

   Ana, her mom, sits with her and opens a big book on the bed.

6. Pasan la primera página y ven un lagarto verde que toma el sol en una roca.

   They turn the first page and see a green lizard sunning itself on a rock.

7. En la siguiente página hay una serpiente larga que se enrolla tranquila.

   On the next page there is a long snake that coils calmly.

8. Carmen mira con atención y dibuja una línea ondulada.

   Carmen looks carefully and draws a wavy line.

9. Después ven un cocodrilo grande, de boca abierta, descansando en el río.

   Then they see a big crocodile, mouth open, resting in the river.

10. —¿Es un pez? —pregunta Carmen.

    —Is it a fish?" asks Carmen.

11. —No, es un reptil —dice Ana—, y respira aire, como tú.

    —No, it's a reptile," Ana says, "and it breathes air, like you.

12. Luego aparece una rana pequeña, sentada en una hoja, y Carmen ríe.

    Then a small frog appears, sitting on a leaf, and Carmen laughs.

13. De pronto, ven un tigre en una foto del bosque, y Carmen frunce el ceño.

    Suddenly, they see a tiger in a photo of the forest, and Carmen frowns.

14. —¿Es un reptil también? —pregunta.

    —Is it a reptile too?" she asks.

15. —No, el tigre es un mamífero, y solo está en la foto —dice Ana con calma—, aquí estamos seguras.

    —No, the tiger is a mammal, and it's only in the picture," Ana says calmly, "we're safe here.

16. Cerca de la lámpara, hay una araña muy pequeña, y Carmen la mira sin miedo.

    Near the lamp, there is a very small spider, and Carmen looks at it without fear.
