Daan en het vreemde woord

1. Het is avond in Daans kamer.

   It's evening in Daan's room.

2. Er is een zacht licht en de maan kijkt naar binnen.

   There is a soft light and the moon peeks in.

3. Daan wil een klein boek lezen voor het slapen.

   Daan wants to read a small book before bed.

4. Hij zit aan de tafel bij het raam.

   He sits at the table by the window.

5. Hij slaat de eerste pagina open en glimlacht.

   He opens the first page and smiles.

6. Naast hem ligt een vel papier met een leeg vlak om te tekenen.

   Next to him is a sheet of paper with a blank space to draw.

7. In het boek staat een kort verhaal over dieren.

   In the book there is a short story about animals.

8. Daan leest langzaam de woorden en telt de pagina's.

   Daan reads the words slowly and counts the pages.

9. Dan ziet hij het vreemde woord body en hij stopt even.

   Then he sees the strange word "body" and pauses for a moment.

10. Mama Lotte komt zacht binnen en vraagt: "Wat is er?"

    Mama Lotte comes in quietly and asks, "What's wrong?"

11. Daan wijst naar het woord en zegt: "Ik ken het niet, wat betekent het?"

    Daan points to the word and says, "I don't know it. What does it mean?"

12. Mama lacht en zegt: "Body is Engels voor lichaam," en ze tekent armen en benen.

    Mom laughs and says, "Body is the English word for 'lichaam'," and she draws arms and legs.

13. Daan beweegt zijn armen en benen en knikt blij.

    Daan moves his arms and legs and nods happily.

14. Samen lezen ze verder, bladzijde voor bladzijde, tot het einde.

    Together they read on, page by page, until the end.

15. Daan sluit het boek en valt rustig in slaap.

    Daan closes the book and falls asleep quietly.
