Mara zählt die Zeit

1. Im Kinderzimmer sitzt Mara im Bett, und Mama Lena macht das Licht warm und leise.

   In the child's room, Mara sits in bed, and Mom Lena makes the light warm and soft.

2. Mara denkt an die Zeit und flüstert: "Ich will wissen, wann Oma kommt."

   Mara thinks about the time and whispers, "I want to know when Grandma is coming."

3. Mama lächelt: "Oma wird nächste Woche kommen, mein Schatz."

   Mom smiles and says, 'Grandma will come next week, sweetheart.'

4. Wir haben eine kleine Uhr auf dem Nachttisch.

   We have a small clock on the nightstand.

5. Mama zeigt auf sie und sagt: "Eine Stunde hat sechzig Minuten."

   Mom points to her and says, "An hour has sixty minutes."

6. Dann erklärt sie: "Ein Tag hat Morgen, Mittag und Abend, und es gibt sieben Tage in einer Woche."

   Then she explains, 'A day has morning, noon and evening, and there are seven days in a week.'

7. Mara runzelt die Stirn: "Wie lange ist eine Woche?"

   Mara frowns and says, "How long is a week?"

8. "Sie klingt so lang; ich kann nicht gut warten," flüstert sie und zieht die Decke hoch.

   "It sounds so long; I can't wait," she whispers and pulls the blanket up.

9. Mama sagt leise: "Ein Monat hat vier Wochen, und ein Jahr hat zwölf Monate; unsere Woche ist nur ein kleines Stück."

   Mom says quietly, 'A month has four weeks, and a year has twelve months; our week is only a small part.'

10. "Wir machen einen kleinen Plan," sagt Mama, "jeden Tag malen wir einen Stern an den Kalender."

    "We'll make a small plan," says Mom, "each day we'll paint a star on the calendar."

11. Mama erklärt die Zahlen auf der Uhr, und Mara atmet langsam und ruhig.

    Mom explains the numbers on the clock, and Mara breathes slowly and calmly.

12. Bald fallen Maras Augen zu, denn die Woche hat einen Anfang und ein Ende, und morgen ist ein neuer Tag.

    Soon Mara's eyes close, because the week has a beginning and an end, and tomorrow is a new day.
