Hugo compte les étoiles

  1. Dans la chambre de Hugo, il y a une petite boîte de cartes de nombres.

    In Hugo's room, there is a small box of number cards.

  2. Hugo veut compter les étoiles au plafond pour s'endormir.

    Hugo wants to count the stars on the ceiling to fall asleep.

  3. Il a des cartes avec des mots en anglais.

    He has cards with words in English.

  4. Sur la première carte, Hugo lit 'zero' et il sourit.

    On the first card, Hugo reads "zero" and smiles.

  5. Puis il pose 'seven' près de sept petites étoiles collées.

    Then he places 'seven' next to seven little glued stars.

  6. Il aligne aussi 'twenty' et 'thirty' sur la table.

    He also lines up 'twenty' and 'thirty' on the table.

  7. Mais Hugo est un peu perdu et il oublie le compte.

    But Hugo is a bit lost and he loses count.

  8. Papa Marc vient et dit: on peut compter par dizaines.

    Dad Marc comes and says, 'We can count by tens.'

  9. Ils montrent 'eighty' en pointant huit rangs de dix étoiles imaginaires.

    They show "eighty" by pointing to eight rows of ten imaginary stars.

  10. Ensuite, Papa explique que 'hundred' est dix rangs de dix, comme un grand carré.

    Then, Dad explains that 'hundred' is ten rows of ten, like a big square.

  11. Hugo respire, recommence, et compte doucement jusqu'à trente en regardant la carte 'thirty' déjà posée.

    Hugo breathes, starts again, and softly counts to thirty while looking at the 'thirty' card that's already there.

  12. Il s'endort près de Papa, calme et fier.

    He falls asleep next to Dad, calm and proud.
