Maya and Grandma’s Age Story

There is a soft lamp by the sofa in Grandma Anna's living room.

هناك مصباح خافت بجانب الأريكة في غرفة الجدة آنا.
The evening is calm and warm.

المساء هادئ ودافئ.
Maya says, "I am young, Grandma; are you old?"

مايا تقول: «أنا صغيرة يا جدتي؛ هل أنتِ كبيرة في السن؟»
Grandma Anna laughs softly and nods.

الجدة آنا تضحك بهدوء وتومئ برأسها.
She takes a photo album from the shelf.

تأخذ ألبوم صور من الرف.
On the rug, there is a red balloon.

على السجادة يوجد بالون أحمر.
Maya picks it up, but the balloon is flat and sleepy.

مايا تلتقطه، لكن البالون مفرغ ويبدو ناعسًا.
"I want to make the room pretty for your stories," she says.

تقول: «أريد أن أجعل الغرفة جميلة لقصصك.»
Grandma says, "This photo can help first."

الجدة تقول: «قد تساعد هذه الصورة أولاً.»
"This is me at five," says Grandma, and Maya smiles.

هذا أنا عندما كنت في الخامسة، تقول الجدة، ومايا تبتسم.
"We look the same here," Maya says.

نبدو متشابهين هنا، تقول مايا.
Maya points to a page and says, "You are twenty here," and Grandma says, "That is correct."

Maya holds the balloon with her hands.

Grandma blows gently, and the balloon grows round by the sofa.

"Awesome," Maya whispers, and she puts it near the album.

They sit close again, and Grandma tells one more small story about growing up.

Maya leans on her shoulder and says, "I am small now, and one day I will be big."

Grandma smiles and hums, and Maya closes her eyes.
