Ik ga naar huis omdat ik moe ben.
English: I go home because I am tired.
In Dutch, 'bijzinnen' are subordinate clauses. Words like 'omdat', 'hoewel', 'terwijl', 'zodat', 'doordat', 'als', 'wanneer', and 'toen' connect two ideas and introduce a subordinate clause. These words are called subordinating conjunctions.
Use these words to connect two sentences and show reason, contrast, time, cause, result, or condition in Dutch. The verb in the subordinate clause goes at the end of the clause.
