An admission is a beginning, but it hardly amounts to genuine reconciliation. Words must be followed by changed behaviour.

Granted. Yet many would argue that confessing one's mistake publicly takes considerable courage.

That's rather cynical, Sylvia. Surely we should grant people the benefit of the doubt when they openly acknowledge error.

I would, were such admissions more frequent. In my experience, genuine self-criticism is rare in professional settings.

Fair enough. Still, the question now is whether her colleague is willing to forgive and move forward constructively.

True, but withholding forgiveness indefinitely also has costs. Resentment, if allowed to fester, poisons entire teams.

Precisely. Had she confessed earlier, much of this tension might have been avoided altogether.

Indeed. Without such structures, reconciliation becomes a matter of personality rather than principle — and that's rarely sustainable.
