İngilizcede süperlatifler, bir grup içinde bir şeyin en fazla ya da en az özelliğe sahip olduğunu göstermek için kullanılır. Örneğin: 'the tallest', 'the smallest', 'the most interesting'.

Ne zaman kullanılır

İngilizcede süperlatifler, üç veya daha fazla kişi, yer ya da şeyi karşılaştırırken ve birinin en fazla ya da en az özelliğe sahip olduğunu belirtirken kullanılır.

Temel biçimler

  • Kısa sıfatlar için: the + sıfat + -est (the tallest)
  • Uzun sıfatlar için: the most + sıfat (the most beautiful)

Örnekler

She is the youngest in the class.

Türkçe: O, sınıftaki en genç kişi.

This is the most expensive book.

Türkçe: Bu en pahalı kitap.

Mount Everest is the highest mountain.

Türkçe: Everest Dağı en yüksek dağdır.

That was the funniest movie.

Türkçe: Bu en komik filmdi.

İpuçları

  • Süperlatif yapıda her zaman başına 'the' ekleyin.
  • Sonu 'y' ile biten sıfatlarda, 'y' harfini 'i' yapıp '-est' ekleyin (happy → the happiest).
  • 'the most' ve '-est' aynı anda kullanılmaz (the fastest doğru, the most fastest yanlış).

İstisnalar ve kenar durumları

  • Bazı sıfatlar düzensizdir: good → the best, bad → the worst, far → the farthest/furthest.
