এই ব্যাকরণ বিষয়টি কী নিয়ে
ইংরেজিতে singular এবং plural nouns দেখায় আমরা একটির (singular) নাকি একাধিক (plural) বিষয়ে বলছি।
কখন এটি ব্যবহার করবেন
একজন ব্যক্তি, প্রাণী, বা জিনিস সম্পর্কে বললে singular noun ব্যবহার করুন। দুই বা তার বেশি হলে plural noun ব্যবহার করুন।
মূল রূপ
- Most nouns: add -s for plural (cat → cats)
- Nouns ending in -ch, -sh, -s, -x, -z: add -es (bus → buses)
- Nouns ending in -y (after a consonant): change -y to -ies (baby → babies)
উদাহরণ
There are two apples.
বাংলা: দুটি আপেল আছে।
I have three dogs.
বাংলা: আমার তিনটি কুকুর আছে।
The baby is sleeping.
বাংলা: শিশুটি ঘুমাচ্ছে।
The babies are sleeping.
বাংলা: শিশুগুলো ঘুমাচ্ছে।
টিপস
- বেশিরভাগ plural-এ শুধু -s যোগ হয়, তবে বানানে কিছু পরিবর্তন হতে পারে।
- কিছু শব্দ plural-এ পরিবর্তন হয় না (sheep, deer)।
- কিছু শব্দের irregular plural আছে (child → children, man → men)।
ব্যতিক্রম ও বিশেষ অবস্থা
- কিছু noun নিয়ম মেনে চলে না (man → men, woman → women, child → children, foot → feet, tooth → teeth, mouse → mice)।
- কিছু noun singular এবং plural একই থাকে (sheep, fish, deer)।
